Numismatic Art in America; Aesthetics of the United States Coinage-Belknap Press Edition 1971 (Vermeule) On Hold
Simply put the finest work on US coinage that has ever been produced. That may read like a bold statement, but in my years in this hobby-industry I have never found a work that could talk about the art and history of US design like this work. Cornelius Vermeule had been Curator of Classical Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and was also a serious numismatist and write. This nexus tapped into the best of all worlds and the result was this book. There is a second edition that Whitman published within the last few years and I imagine that it takes the core of the first edition and expands it into the present. However, there isn't anything quite like the original. The binding of this copy is tight and the pages crisp and clean. The front and back cover show some wear and there is a single pencil notation when the front cover is opened. Overall, this is a delightful representative of a very important US work and the first editions are difficult to locate. On Hold
